Ciutadella

Situated on the west coast of the island, Ciutadella is a stylish place to visit that is well known for sumptuous fish restaurants serving the local catch of the day.

Ciutadella was Menorca's original capital and the city oozes history with many sites to visit. Of particular note is Castell Sant Nicolas, a 17th century defence tower now used as an exhibition gallery (and also a beautiful vantage point for watching the sun set). Ciutadella's catedral is another stunning building, originally a mosque then rebuilt in 1287 when Alfonso III defeated the Moors and claimed Menorca for christianity. Wherever you go - do it slowly! Ciutadella is the hub of Menorca's café society, so take time to sit, relax and watch the world go by.

Festes de Sant Joan

Ciutadella is also host to the island's largest and most popular festival. The Festes de Sant Joan take place 23rd - 24th June each year and feature a heady mix of processions, pomada (a gin based drink) and horse racing and jousting around the streets. It's a very lively event and visitors are very welcome - highly recommended if you can make it.

The nearest resorts to Ciutadella are in the surrounding bays of Cala En Blanes.
