Es Mercadal

Situated halfway between Mahon and Ciutadella, Es Mercadal almost certainly derives its name from the market held here from the 14th century. The town lies at the foot of Monte Toro, Menorca's highest mountain.

Although tourism plays little part in the town's life, it is certainly worth a visit if you are in the vicinity. Several restaurants here serve authentic Menorcean food and Es Mercadal is also known for its almond biscuits and manufacture of sandals, or abarcas.

Es Mercadal holds its annual fiesta in honour of St Martin on the 3rd weekend in July. Visitors are welcome.

Located in the surroundings of the Santa Teresa estate, this museum offers visitors the chance to discover the Roman history of the island.

Son Parc (7.5 km) - show on map

The real draw of Son Parc is the beautiful beach that never feels overcrowded, even at the height of summer. Pedaloes and boats are available for hire, food and refreshment is readily available and the waters are ideal for families with young children. This is a classic holidaymakers beach, ideal for sun worship and swimming.

Arenal d'en Castell (8.4 km) - show on map

A classic beach for tourists, dominated by large hotels and offering plenty of services and refreshment. This is not a beach for those wanting solitude - but the perfect place for families seeking comfortable days of sun, sea and sand.

Cala Pregonda (8.6 km) - show on map

This is without doubt one of the jewels of Menorca, a beautiful bay with crisp light sand, crystal blue waters, backed by pine and tamarisk woods. A few villas dot the cove (built before tough restrictions were introduced) but this is an otherwise totally unspoilt bay. There is a downside: access to Cala Pregonda is limited, the best route being the road from Binimel-l�. For those who make the effort, the reward is well deserved!

Reckoned to be the top children's attraction on the island, situated in Son Bou. This water/play park offers unlimited fun for younger members of the family.
